Membership in the Sunnyvale Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (SCPAAA) is reserved for graduates of the Sunnyvale Citizens Police Academy. As an alumnus, you join a committed group of neighbors who have chosen to deepen their understanding of how the Sunnyvale Police Department operates and to turn that knowledge into meaningful, ongoing support for the department and the community. SCPAAA members serve as goodwill ambassadors for the department, assist with special projects and community events when requested, and support the day-to-day needs that are often not visible but make a significant difference in keeping Sunnyvale safe and welcoming.
Graduating from the Citizens Police Academy is the gateway to joining SCPAAA. The Academy is a hands-on, multi-week educational program that provides a behind-the-scenes look at police communications, patrol, investigations, crime prevention, tactical operations, defensive tactics, firearms training, and more, often taught directly by the officers and supervisors who work in these areas. Many sessions include practical demonstrations, facility tours, and even the opportunity to participate in a patrol ride-along, so you can see firsthand how policing works in Sunnyvale. There is no cost to attend the Academy, making it an accessible way to get involved and build a stronger connection with your local officers.
If you are passionate about public safety, want to strengthen relationships between residents and the police, and are looking for a constructive way to give back to your community, the path starts with the Citizens Police Academy. For more information about qualifications, class schedule, and how to apply for the Academy, please visit the Town of Sunnyvale website at: https://www.townofsunnyvale.org/529/Citizens-Police-Academy
Once you complete the Academy, you will be eligible to join the Sunnyvale Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and stay actively engaged in supporting both the department and the Town of Sunnyvale for years to come.
