The academy is held twice each year, once in the spring and once in the fall. Classes are held each Thursday evening from 6:30 - 9 p.m. To graduate, each participant is required to attend at least 7 of the 10 classes.
There is no cost to participate in the academy. Graduates of the Sunnyvale Citizens Police Academy are not trained to be Police Officers or vigilantes. The purpose of the academy is to provide attendees with information, enabling them to make informed judgments about the Police Department.
The Sunnyvale Police Department hopes that the continued availability of the academy will enhance police-community relations through this educational process. In turn, the Police Department becomes more aware of the community's feelings and concerns through the participants' interaction and input. Together, we can create a coalition of citizens and police working together to make the Town of Sunnyvale an even safer place to work and live.
This class is the second annual CPA for the Town of Sunnyvale. We hope that by providing this information to our citizens, they will be better informed and make more informed decisions when requesting assistance or contributing to the department’s needs.
